In 1982, Hartmut Ortlieb established the ORTLIEB company in Nuremberg. In 1997, the company moved to Heilsbronn, located in the Franconian region near Nuremberg. In 2007, Ortlieb celebrated its 25th anniversary - time flies!

The first ORTLIEB bicycle panniers were born out of a personal need: the search for completely waterproof equipment which, at that time, simply did not exist! The first ORTLIEB products were handmade on Hartmut's mother's sewing machine: dry bags and bicycle panniers made from truck tarpaulins. These prototypes were put to the test by Hartmut and his friends during self-organised cycling and climbing adventures. What started simply soon turned into a success story.

Today, the company has more than 140 employees and the ORTLIEB collection has grown to include more than 500 individual products. Even today, the entire process is carried out under one roof: from development and design to engineering, production, sales, marketing and shipping. All waterproof products are manufactured using a high-frequency welding method at the Heilsbronn site in Germany. "Made in Germany" guarantees high quality outdoor equipment suitable for any demand, climate or terrain. 100% waterproof!
